| About Me |
@morinted on Twitter: https://twitter.com/morinted
I am using stenography for all my races. I use Plover, a free open source stenography program, to interpret strokes that I make on (currently) a Stenomod steno machine. I learned stenography practically only using TypeRacer on my ErgoDox, then a Tréal machine, then an Infinity Ergonomic, and now a Stenomod. From 5WPM to whatever you see above! Here's a graph of my TypeRacer history as of April 2017: http://i.imgur.com/C4iQjHC.png My goal is to hit an average speed of 225 words per minute, as that is the speed that court reporters using steno need to hit in order to be certified. Read more about Plover and its parent, the Open Steno Project: http://openstenoproject.org/ If you are curious about a split mechanical keyboard, try out the ErgoDox (often available on Massdrop, or as the ErgoDox EZ, or from FalbaTech): https://deskthority.net/wiki/ErgoDox The steno machine I'm using mainly right now for work (as a programmer) is a Stenomod, which is a DIY machine that's being built and sold out of California. You can get them for about $200: https://stenomod.blogspot.ca/ If you aren't quite ready to try out stenography but still want to try something other than QWERTY, my favorite alternative is Norman: http://normanlayout.info (my Norman and QWERTY speeds hover around 100WPM) I theme my TypeRacer because I find the default theme to be drab (and the red background on the input boxes to be overwhelming): https://userstyles.org/styles/112423/typeracer-flat-blue-ad-removal Cheers, Ted |
