Maskinskrivning tävlingar gav ytterligare test av QWERTY-tangentbord. Dessa tävlingar är något bagatelliseras i konventionell historia. Faktum var att skriva tävlingar och demonstrationer av hastighet ganska vanligt under denna period. De handlar om många olika maskiner, med olika tillverkare påstår att hålla hastighetsrekord.
