Three Vulcans, including T'Mir (great-grandmother of T'Pol) and Mestral, are stranded on Earth after coming to the planet to observe its first artificial satellite, Sputnik. They live among and mingle with humans in Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania for several months. Upon their rescue, Mestral elects to stay on Earth, disguised as a human, for the rest of his life.
